Alison Plevey

Alison graduates from WAAPA in 2008, and is a dancer with AIVDT, and is completing her honours degree with LINK dance company. Alison Plevey is a dancer, choreographer and film creator driven to contribute to the diversifying and collaborative nature of the performance art in Australia.
Since gaining acceptance to Bachelor of Arts (Dance) course at the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 2006, Alison has expanded her dance interests and skills focussing predominantly on the contemporary form. Integrating her intelligence with creativity, she seeks to experiment with the possibilities of movement in improvisation, performance and choreography. Her major student choreographic work ‘In my shoes’ performed as part of D.A.S.H at PICA showcased her flair for creating innovative and engaging dance. Alison has performed in works by renowned choreographers Nanette Hassall, Michael Whiates, Umesh Shetty and Gary Stewart remounted by Anton.In successive years (2007-2008), Alison has been awarded project grants from Arts NSW through Bathurst’s Performing Arts Development Program, to teach In Motion contemporary dance workshops to young dancers of Bathurst, developing her skills as an educator as well as dance artist.
Alison’s innovative and intelligent outlook on contemporary dance has led her to aspire to both perform and create work, whilst contributing to dancer development and education in Australia. She has also developed a keen interest in dance film making which began with her creation ‘Roadside’ in 2007. Through this medium Alison sees an exciting realm in which to experiment with movement and dance through the frame of a camera.
Alison seeks to broaden her knowledge and experience within the professional dance industry both in Australia and overseas, actively contributing to the development of contemporary dance as an accessible and enjoyable art form.
